Sustainable all round.

Latest news

Whether child labor in cocoa cultivation, school campaigns for recycled paper, resource efficiency in administration or networking with and meeting local actors in the agricultural and food industry - the Office for Local Sustainability deals with many topics.

The primary goal is to support the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals at a local level. Within this framework, the Office for Local Sustainability initiates and coordinates corresponding activities in Bonn, cooperates with working groups and local initiatives, organizations and individual sustainability actors, reports on progress in the city and serves as a contact point for interested citizens. Last but not least, the Office for Local Sustainability also invites interested parties to its own events to obtain further information.

Submit your own recipes for regional cookbook Bonn

Working together to change what's on the table in Bonn is the goal of the regional Bonn cookbook, which is expected to be available digitally in fall 2024. It will showcase the diversity of regional foods, provide ideas for a seasonal diet and tips for using up leftovers. Cooking enthusiasts from Bonn and the Rhein-Sieg district are now invited to share their own recipes, either by name or anonymously. This could be a pesto made from radish leaves, a broth made from frozen vegetable peelings or bread dumplings made from dry bread rolls, for example. We also welcome tips on how to make use of leftover food, such as using corn leaves as baking paper, in line with the zero-waste concept.

Dr. Darya Hirsch, Coordinator of the Organic City of Bonn, Office for Local Sustainability of the Office for the Environment and Urban Greenery, is delighted about the launch of the cookbook campaign: "With the regional cookbook, we want to promote appreciation for seasonal food from the region and offer inspiration. The idea of sustainability in cooking is not a new one, but it is more topical than ever. The younger generation in particular is interested in environmentally friendly nutrition, something that their grandparents' generation was already aware of. We look forward to receiving many recipes that we can include and share in our cookbook."

Anyone interested can submit their recipes using the  online form (opens in a new tab) at  bonn.de/regional-cookbook (opens in a new tab) or by postcard. The postcards, which can be posted in all city letterboxes, are available at various locations around the city, such as the City Hall, Bonn-Information and Haus der Bildung.
