BonNova

The Bonn waste recycling plant (MVA) has set out on the path to a zero-waste society in Bonn and the region. This transformation process, called BonNova, aims to actively promote the change from a waste disposal location to a zero-waste society.

The starting point for bonNova is the current technology of thermal waste recycling: since 1992, waste that is not suitable for recycling has been incinerated at MVA Bonn; the resulting incineration energy is used to produce electricity and district heating. MVA Bonn sees itself as a representative of a transitional solution and advocates effective recycling and a change in consumer behavior. Key keywords here are reusable instead of disposable, new products from recycling and energy efficiency in recycling processes. Together with research partners, solutions are being sought to achieve CO2 neutrality in residual waste incineration by 2035 at the latest.
